Bacterial infection:

If a bacterial infection has caused the fever, the physician may prescribe an antibiotic.

Viral infection:

If a fever has been caused by a cold, which is caused by a viral infection, NSAIDs may be used, such as panadol cf, Arinac, etc. to relieve uncomfortable symptoms. Antibiotics do not affect viruses & will not be prescribed by your physician for a viral infection.

NSAIDs would not be useful if the person’s fever caused by hot weather or sustained strenuous exercise. The patient needs to be cooled. If they are confused or unconscious, they should be treated by a physician straight away.
