What is Microlax Enema

What Microlax looks like

Microlax enemas come in a white, plastic nip tube with a long, thin insertion nozzle & an easily damaged seal. This seal must be removed before use. Microlax is available in two quantities, one a four-pack & two a 12 pack of the 5mL application. If you can not find it on the local drugstore, ask your pharmacist for micro enema.

Each micro enema tube contains 5 mL of solution.

Each Microlax tube contains the following active ingredients: 

  • 450mg/5mL sodium citrate
  • 45mg/5mL sodium lauryl sulfoacetate
  • 3.125g/5mL sorbitol

Inactive Ingredients

It also contains 

  • Glycerol
  • Sorbic acid &
  • Purified Water

What Microlax is used for

A micro enema may be used for relief of rectal constipation or open the bowels, & is suitable for the whole family, including children. It may also use as directed by a doctor in preparation for a rectal examination ( rectoscopic or sigmoidoscopic examination).

When you must not use Microlax

  • This laxative did not apply if you notice that you are allergic to any of the ingredients which are listed under the caption, “Product Description”, at the completion of this leaflet.
    Do not use Microlax enema after the end date mark on the box or tube.
  • It does not use if the packaging is torn or shows signs that it may have been opened.
  • Do not use to treat any other complaint unless your doctor says it is safe.

How To Use a micro enema

  • Twist the seal of the nozzle.
  • Press the tube lightly so that come out enema gel in the tip – this will lubricate the nozzle & make insertion easy.
    Inject the nozzle completely into the anus (in Children under three years of age, insert only half the length of the nozzle (see a hint on the beak).
  • Squeeze out the contents thoroughly by squeezing the shoulder of the tube.
  • Withdraw the nozzle, still squeezing tightly.
  • After use, dispose of the micro-enema – so easy & hygienic.

Overdosage

Contact a Dr… or search medical help if you think you have used too most this enema.

Cautions

  • Do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in this laxative.
  • Don’t use in the attendance of abdominal pain, fever, nausea, or vomiting.
  • If symptoms stay, check with the doctor & avoid extended use greater than one week, if the doctor has told a new schedule for you.
  • Do not use this enema while using laxative containing sodium polystyrene sulfonate as there may be a risk of intestinal necrosis.
  • If pregnant or breast-feeding, talk to the Dr. before use.

Side effects of Microlax

These laxatives may cause unwanted side effects in some people. Tell your Dr.. promptly if any unlikely but serious side effects occur such as:

  • A slight rectal burning sensation has occasionally reported.
  • Single cases of allergy or abnormal reactions such as general skin reactions with or without low B.P. or breathing difficulties have also been reported.

If these negative effects do not go away or they consider you, tell the Dr.

Storage

  • It keeps in a place where the temperature stays below 30°C.
  • Do not store Micro enema or any other medicine in the bathroom or near a sink.
  • Keep micro enema out of reach of children.

Disposal

Vacant tubes of enema possibly disposed of by winding paper & placing it in the trash. Unutilized tubes of enema which have gone past the expiry date mark on the box returned to the pharmacist.
